Role of the Counselor

School counselors educate, advocate and empower.

Work alongside teachers and parents/guardians to help students develop socially and emotionally.

Help remove barriers students may have with learning

Supports students through classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, individual sessions and system support
Classroom Guidance Lessons

Lessons are delivered to each K-2 classroom biweekly.

Topics may include: Conflict resolution, friendship skills, growth mindset, responsibility, listening skills, mindfulness and coping skills, self-awareness, self-esteem, self-regulation (emotions), career exploration
Responsive Services

Small group counseling
-
For students that may need additional support in certain social or emotional situations.

Formed by referrals from counselor or teachers

Parent permission will be obtained to participate.

Short-term individual and crisis counseling
-
Individual support for those students who need more one-on-one help navigating social and emotional concerns or help solving a problem.
-
These sessions focus on helping the student find ways to cope with these concerns.

Please note that I do NOT provide long-term therapy and typically meet with a student no more than 8 continuous times over a school year. For ongoing and more serious mental health needs, I am happy to work with the student and their families to refer them to outside providers.
